How Does PhotoReading Work? PDF  | Print |  E-mail
Written by Carlo C.

PhotoReading is absorbing written information using the subconscious mind. In traditional reading, the conscious mind passes through the text and takes in information line by line. The PhotoReading system takes a shortcut - it allows you to take mental pictures of textual information, making you process information faster and retain them longer. Read on for more information on how does PhotoReading work.

Theories and concepts

The concept of PhotoReading is based on the three concepts. The first basis is that humans learn faster with visual information (images) than with textual or auditory information (words). It is also based on the theory that we first learn unconsciously, then consciously, and unconsciously again. Finally, PhotoReading is also based on the 'left-brain, right-brain' concept - it allows the use of both sides of the brain to maximize learning potential.

Five steps

The PhotoReading system is marketed through seminars and home courses in a CD package. The system involves five steps:
1. Inducing a light hypnotic state. This process induces a semi-unconscious state that prepares the mind for reading and enters an Accelerated Learning State. A comfortable area is required and a set time is given to complete the process.

2. Previewing. In this step, the person gets a feel of the structure of the book and what it offers. This is done by reading the index, appendix, and glancing at one in every 20 pages of the book, while in the semi-conscious state. The person keeps in mind the words he or she believes are important.

3. Photoreading. This is done by taking a mental picture of each page of the book, at one page per second, while still in the semi-conscious state. At this time, the subconscious is processing, organizing, and storing information for "activation" and use at a later time. Because the person is in a light hypnotic state, PhotoReading can be done by capturing the pages from front to back, back to front, or even with the pages upside down.

4. Activation. The unconscious mind processes all the information for 20 minutes to a day and thereafter. The reader peruses through the book to "fill in" concepts and details missed by the preview and PhotoReading steps.

5. Rapid Reading. The reader can then read the book normally at a faster rate similar to that of speed reading.

Unclogging your mind

With today's fast-paced lifestyle, the average person takes in thousands of bits of information daily. Information can be literally found everywhere - when you pick up your box of cereal, pour a glass of milk, read the paper, turn on the TV, and go to work. All these bits of information can saturate the mind, forcing us to dispose of information quickly to make room for new ones.

Because the brain is used to gathering information bit by bit, we have a hard time absorbing bulk information which requires focus and concentration, such as novels, textbooks, or long passages. At work or school, we are forced to absorb even more
information.

How does PhotoReading work? It acts like a filter, removing all the clutter and useless information from the mind and sifting through important points in printed material. With PhotoReading, your brain will absorb a page per second, allowing you to absorb and retain large volumes of information without getting stressed or burned out.
