In my garden I have a studio where I create all my pictures.
This is my Special Place, a jumble of colors, images, works in progress
and as many flowers from the garden as are practical, for me to look
at. It smells of paint, white spirit, turps, all of which I find
absolutely wonderful and familiar.
I paint Portraits with a difference, which I love to do. I am
also intrigued by Religious Art and I paint much of this with a
humorous sideways look at what our religions say - what I
want to ask in these paintings is "Are You Sure?"
Renaissance Art, Russian and Greek Icons and a deeply held fascination
for beliefs and faiths of all kinds compels me to explore all this
pictorially. Also, when wanting a light hearted break I paint
Fat Ladies, Thin Ladies, Happy Ladies by the sea, in the sky, Fancy
Ladies in pretty costumes - all of which are for sale and are
popular in the US.
My Portraits are hugely rewarding and challenging. I work
with you to create a wonderful representation of you, your family,
friends and animals exactly as you are and would like to be now, at
this time of your lives. The challenge is painting it to make
it good for you and for me. I have very high standards and
pay great attention to detail.
My Background
I have a Masters in Art History. This has been extremely
useful in accessing artists' lives and works throughout
history.
I ignored my dream to become an artist until I was 38 years
old. By then I had 3 very small children and a divorce behind
me. It seemed that until I could go no lower I could not
allow myself to be the Artist I had always known I was.
Being an artist is the best and absolutely the hardest thing I have
ever done. I am very dedicated, and it is the thing I am on
this earth for. So it makes sense to me that I had a bit of
living to do first, as now this huge gift of painting, creating and
listening to inspiration has to be taken seriously.
I am now making my living supporting my children and myself in Sunny
West Sussex with painting, and I love it.
My Interests
Well, my main interests are making pots of tea and piling a plate with
cakes and hiding somewhere with a book. I just love tea and
cakes, and I love afternoon tea anywhere that really provides a good
experience.
So, I love reading and I am drawn to all sorts of subjects.
Humor, wit, crime novels, religious works, psychology, very
occasionally poetry but no whinging.
I am truly transformed by color, and love beautiful smells. I
love to meet people, I love to watch people and I love to talk and
discuss things. I am especially thrilled by people who are
articulate and debate well. I have a list of inspirational
people up on my wall and I add names to it when I hear someone who I
admire speak.
I am a great Radio 4 fan, and it provides much food for thought and
background when I work. My secret passion though is reggae
music, and I can listen and sing to that for hours. Wonderful.
