Here are 10 important Goal Setting Techniques that will help to keep
you focused:
1.Goals must be written down -
there is a saying that the shortest pencil is better than the longest
memory!
2.They must be specific - not
vague. e.g. I want to buy a property is too vague. Rather I
will buy a
property.
3. They must be in the future tense, as though already
accomplished. e.g . . . . I
have brought a property. Not I want to own a
property.
4.Goals must have a time frame by which
they will be achieved. e.g.
I will have brought my first property by? - be specific write
down the date.
5.They must have a clearly defined
destination. e.g. to buy one investment property by the end of March
this year.
6.They must be reviewed daily to keep
you motivated and on track. e.g. carry it around with you on a small
card - refer to your goal/s throughout the day.
7.It is encouraging to have a process by which you
can measure your
progress.
In our example to buy a property the following could apply:
a) Research possible areas to invest in.
b) Then you could register with local estate agents in your chosen
area.
c) Then the next step and the next etc. until you have brought your
first investment property.
8.Reward yourself for the achievement.
In our example, it could be buying yourself that bottle of perfume you
have always wanted.
9.Do not put up restraints. e.g. I will
buy the property when..
10.Have a backup support system. A
friend or club that is monitoring your progress and encouraging you to
achieve your goal/s.
